2025 Oscars: Anora's Sweep, Demi Moore's Triumph, and the Night's Best Moments
Sean Baker's Palme d'Or winner Anora dominated the 97th Academy Awards, while Demi Moore delivered the night's most emotional speech.
The 97th Academy Awards, hosted by Conan O'Brien at the Dolby Theatre, will be remembered for the triumphant sweep of Sean Baker's Anora — an indie film about a New York sex worker's whirlwind marriage to a Russian oligarch's son that took home five awards including Best Picture and Best Director.
Demi Moore won Best Actress for The Substance, a body horror film in which she plays a fading actress who takes an experimental drug. Her acceptance speech, in which she recounted being told early in her career that she was a 'popcorn actress,' moved the audience to tears and generated the night's most viral moment.
Adrien Brody won his second Best Actor Oscar for The Brutalist, while Zoe Saldana took Best Supporting Actress for Emilia Pérez — a film that itself had a complicated awards journey after controversy surrounding its lead actress. Kieran Culkin (A Real Pain) won Best Supporting Actor in one of the night's most warmly received speeches.
